Weekly Update 12 June 2026
Reflection
June Cook
June Cook
It’s good to reflect back on the life lessons Jesus taught during his brief time on Earth. When we think about Christianity, many of us harken back to the stories and parables of Biblical times. Let’s remember, though, that we, today, are the living embodiment of the Christianity of antiquity. We are the modern prophets and disciples, no less important than those of old. We are joined with the saints, martyrs, and the faithful through all generations by virtue of our baptism. Our work to spread the Kingdom of God is just as important today as it was 2,000 years ago.
So I’m inspired that we have among us, sitting beside us in the pews/chairs, people willing to consider a possible call to expanded leadership in our Ministry Support Circle. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who took the time to thoughtfully and prayerfully identify congregants you believe have the skills, experience, and vision to support our ministries in committed, creative, caring ways. I anticipate continued growth, if not in numbers, in spirituality, community building, and mutual support. The future is bright!

The Red Door Thrift Shop Update
Dawn Jex
Dawn Jex, Red Door Manager
Hello Everyone,
I have been called to do Jury Duty. Debbie will be running the show for the rest of the week until the court system excuses me.
Merchandising - When putting items out in the retail area, please do not put a bunch of things on the floor. It makes the shop look messy and customers will trip over items. One of the best recommendations I can give you is that everything tells a story - A table top says - "this is a nice dinner setting", or "this is a collection of music". If it's all a jumble of miscellaneous items it says, "I'm a mess." and messes do not sell. So when you place something out in the retail area, take a moment to think to yourself, "What story am I telling?"
Linens - As some of you are aware we have a group of volunteers who work on measuring and pricing our large linens offsite. These are stored in laundry baskets in the donations area. Our Friday volunteer Tina, has made some improvements to the system that I thought we all should know about in case we need to fill in or help her go through these items.
Each basket has a tag on one side that says "sorted" and one side is blank. After a basket has been sorted, please turn the "sorted" sign to the front so that the folks who pick up these items will know this basket has been approved. We look for stains, holes, bad smells and poor elastic - these items should all be donated to North West Center. Everything that is good goes into a "sorted" bin for pick up - which usually happens on Friday afternoons.
Displays - We are celebrating Pride and also Father’s Day right now in the shop. Tomorrow we will be bringing out the Fourth of July items as that is only a few weeks away!!!!
Frames - In the front of the shop there is a container for art work. Please place all art here unless it won't fit, then we can try to find a place for it on the wall somewhere. Empty frames go in the craft area next to the back wall of the retail area. Thank you.
Thank you for all of your help and thank you for supporting Debbie this week. If you need to miss a shift, be sure to get her number.
Hugs,
Dawn
