Weekly Update 18 July 2025
Reflection
Fire
by Judy Brown
What makes a fire burn
is space between the logs,
a breathing space.
Too much of a good thing,
too many logs
packed in too tight
can douse the flames
almost as surely
as a pail of water would.
So building fires
requires attention
to the spaces in between,
as much as to the wood.
When we are able to build
open spaces
in the same way
we have learned
to pile on the logs,
then we can come to see how
it is fuel, and absence of the fuel
together, that make fire possible.
We only need to lay a log
lightly from time to time.
A fire
grows
simply because the space is there,
with openings
in which the flame
that knows just how it wants to burn
can find its way.

Hello Everyone!
As I came into work today, I noticed some big changes to our construction out back! We now have some wooden framing going up and it's exciting to see! If you haven't been by the shop lately, drive by and take a look! It's really happening folks!
As we enter the summer season we tend to have a lot of people going on vacation and lots of shifts to fill. So take a look and tell me what you might be able to help with.
Shifts Available:
· July - At the shop, take a look at the calendars on the bulletin board - anywhere a name is circled is an open shift. There are just too many for me to list them all here. Thank you.
· 1st Friday of each month starting Aug 1. Donations 10am-12:30pm (This is just a once a month shift)
· Cashiers for August - I have every Tuesday afternoon available and the first three Thursday mornings also available.
8/5, 8/12, 8/19, 9/26 12:30-3pm
8/7, 8/14, 8/21 10am -12:30
We've been getting a lot of compliments about the shop lately. As I work the front of the store I routinely hear customers commenting about how light and bright the store is, how good it smells and how organized we are! Good Job Everyone! We are doing such a good job that people are noticing!
I've also had a couple of volunteers tell me that we have a welcoming and community minded atmosphere. And this makes me very proud. We care about each other and it shows, some groups go out to lunch together, I can hear laughter in the back room and folks are sharing their concerns with each other.
It's a big part of our mission at The Red Door to create a welcoming and loving atmosphere. I’m proud that we are a place where our volunteers are happy.
The Red Door Committee and I will be meeting tomorrow afternoon to discuss the picnic in August. I will let you know ASAP if there are any changes.
I wish you all a wonderful, warm and sunny week!
