Weekly Update 25 July 2025
Prayer of Thanksgiving
For the Beauty of the Earth
-From The Book of Common Prayer
We give you thanks, most gracious God, for the beauty of earth and sky and sea; for the richness of mountains, plains, and rivers; for the songs of birds and the loveliness of flowers. We praise you for these good gifts, and pray that we may safeguard them for our posterity. Grant that we may continue to grow in our grateful enjoyment of your abundant creation, to the honor and glory of your Name, now and for ever. Amen.

Weekly News
Dawn Jex, Red Door Manager

It seems like almost overnight we have a new building addition sitting behind the shop! If you haven't been in recently, I recommend you take a drive by and see how it is coming along! The roof and windows are next and then they will do the electrical work. Debbie and I have been walking though and imagining where everything is going to go. We're looking forward to getting all of the storage shelves put in place! It's all very exciting!
You will notice that we are fully using the back room in the shop for storage and workspace now. We have even moved almost everything out of the back bathroom so that the construction crew can cut through the back cement wall and put in a door so that we can access the bathroom from the new addition. Almost everything has been moved. If you can't find something, ask Debbie or myself.
A quick note from one of our volunteers. Please be careful what you put into an apron pocket. She placed her hand in one of the pockets and was almost sliced open by a small paring knife that had been left by the previous user. PLEASE do NOT put knives in apron pockets. We are not even keeping sharp knives right now unless they are of high value and can go out into the locked case. Please clean out your pockets when you are finished using an apron. No one wants to find a dirty tissue either. Thank you.
We are currently seeking new volunteers. If you have a friend, neighbor or family member who might be a good fit, please invite them to come in to talk to myself or Debbie. We are in need of cashiers, donation folks and cashier assistants. This would be a great summer volunteer job for any teens over 16 as well!
Shifts Available for August:
Wednesdays in Donations 8/6 8/13 and 8/20 - 10am - 1pm
Thursday Cashier 8/14 10-12:30
Tuesday Cashier 8/5 and 8/19 12:30-3
There is more but I don't want to overwhelm you. If you have a little time available, stop by the shop and let's look at the calendar together.
Our annual Summer Potluck will be on August 11th at 4pm at Washington Park. We will be meeting at the large picnic pavilion that can be accessed by taking the first road to the right as you enter the park area. There is a large gravel parking area. The Red Door Committee will be providing pulled pork and buns and nonalcoholic drinks. I also will be bringing plastic silverware and name tags. We have a signup sheet on the bulletin board in the shop so that you can let me know what you want to bring.
An Invitation: If any of you are interested to attend, Habitat for Humanity is having a "House Blessing" for the Parkside Townhomes where my husband and I will be moving. The event is from 11-1 on Saturday Aug 9th. The address is 1210 29th Street. Parking will be on the street.
See you soon!
