Reflection

Sharman Badgett-Young

Sharman
Badgett-Young

My name, Sharman, is my mother’s maiden name. Her family came from Norfolk, England, not far from where Julian (or Jelyan) of Norwich spent her entire life, from about 1342 until after 1416. Julian was a Christian Mystic and anchoress, influential in her time for her counsel.

In her 30’s Julian became critically ill and received last rites from a Curate. As she lay on her sickbed, staring at the crucifix he held, she could see Jesus begin to bleed. She received sixteen visions of Christ that day and the next and recovered five days later. Afterwards she wrote accounts of her visions, published much later as The Revelations of Divine Love, the oldest known writings in the English language.

She believed Jesus was a mother figure because Jesus’ love for the children of God was as deep as a mother’s love. Although she suffered depression and anguish in her life, she heard Jesus tell her in one of her visions about the power of divine love:“All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.”

Julian of Norwich’s life is celebrated yearly by the Episcopal Church on May 8th.

Last year, my dad and I traveled around the Baltic region - visiting churches across Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Denmark. We came across all kinds of churches from different traditions, shaped by the history and events of the area. I'll be sharing photos and stories from our trip - showing off the different styles of church architecture, the people we met, and a few memorable moments along the way. —Emily

Dawn Jex

Hello Everyone!

I am working on the calendars for June and we have a lot of shifts that will need coverage.

I will need a cashier on Tuesday mornings 6/10, 17 and 24. (10am-12:30pm) Eric Johnson - Julie can do the first Tuesday in June if you can do one of the others?

I will also need afternoon Donation Center Volunteers on Tuesday and Thursdays for the first three weeks of June. 12:30-3pm. This will be in our new Temporary Donation center.

I could use a Cashier Assistant from 11-1 on Thursdays and Fridays.  This person helps the cashier during our busy times, packing up purchases, helping call out prices, opening jewelry case, welcoming shoppers.

Please let me know if any of these shifts sound exciting and joyful to you!!!
