Weekly Update 29 May 2026
Reflection
Grace Minton
So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. (James 2:17)
Grace Minton
Several months ago, Dan Moore gave a brief summary to the congregation of our participation in the One Parish One Prisoner program. Jason Wells is the leader and Dan is the “Bard” of our OPOP team - the person responsible for keeping us all informed of interactions and progress with “our” person, Alivia.
When I joined the OPOP team, I applauded the goals but didn’t fully appreciate that Underground Ministries, the organization that supports OPOP, is a truly remarkable institution. Christ Church has supported Underground Ministries for many years but a recently distributed impact report from them has prompted this Reflection. Their mission statement reads: “Underground Ministries opens new relationships of embrace and trust between the incarcerated and the communities to which they return—for our mutual transformation and resurrection.” Underground Ministries is itself comprised of many formerly incarcerated persons who have achieved useful and productive lives. They pair a congregation with a prisoner who will be released to the area and begin a period of introduction, letter-writing, and eventually encourage the prisoner as they make their way out of prison and into society. Underground Ministries stresses that the positive impact on this program extends beyond the team and “our” person, and helps the congregation bond together and view incarcerated people in a more loving and helpful manner, a more Christian manner.
A few statistics from the Impact Report: In one year, 45 people started their reentry journey with Underground Ministries, 82 people were supported in total. Fourteen new OPOP teams were launched and 14 incarcerated friends were paired with a team pre- release. In addition, 114 new congregation members started walking alongside someone leaving prison.
We will hear more in coming months about the progress our OPOP team is making.

The Red Door Thrift Shop Update
Dawn Jex
Dawn Jex, Red Door Manager
Hello Everyone,
We are back at work today and hoping that the rain will not keep all of our shoppers away. I have posted the calendars for June through email and also on the bulletin board. Thank you to those of you who text me to let me know you will be missing a shift. That is the best way to get notice to me quickly!
We are in the last week of May and will be transitioning to June displays soon. Coming up will be a wedding display, PRIDE, and then Fathers Day.
I know there has been a lot of change in the shop lately and I appreciate your patience with that process. I have been working to acquire some new display pieces to make the shop feel more "homey" and when those pieces go into place lots of things get shifted. So just wanted to thank you for working along with me until things settle down a bit.
Speaking of shifting, we have had two beautiful wooden hutches donated this weekend and I will be working hard tomorrow to get everything moved and in place so that it looks fabulous!
Debbie is on vacation this week celebrating her 40th wedding anniversary! We will miss her and send her a hearty congratulations!
Love to everyone! Let me know if you have questions.
Dawn
