Reflection

Shirley Barrett

Shirley Barrett

Whereas we  usually think of Sunday as our Sabbath, as it is the day we celebrate our worship services, the term “ Sabbath” is not obligated to any specific day of the week. Many faiths take their Sabbath on Saturday. However, many must take their day of rest on a weekday due to their career, job, family, commitments and individual circumstances. So this poem may take Saturday as their day for worship and Sabbath, realize the term is flexible. God’s gift is to set aside one day as holy from the other six days...a blessing of His love, grace, and mercy for His beloved children.

It is the day we give back to our Creator  with our worship, thankfulness and celebration, whether it be peaceful, filled with excitement, whatever gives glory to our loving and compassionate God. As Jesus has said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” (Mark 2:27-28)

Blessed Be the Saturday: A Sabbath Poem

On Saturday’s dawn, the world is still
A quiet hush upon the hill
As Yahweh above, in heaven’s light
Commands us all to worship right
A day of rest, a sacred time
To offer up our hearts in rhyme
In prayer and song, we gather near
To honor Him who we revere
In stillness of the morning air
We feel His presence everywhere
His love surrounds us, pure and true
His mercy falling like the dew
So let us bow our heads and pray
On this blessed and sacred day
For in His arms, we find our peace
Our souls’ unrest now finds release

Oh Saturday, so sweet and pure
A day to worship, to endure
In Yahweh’s embrace, we find our rest
For in His love, we are blessed.

Hello Friends and Volunteers!

First of all, I'd like to give a huge shout out to all of you who worked yesterday to make the shop look so nice, price items, work in the shed, do displays etc. The shop looks great this morning and I know a lot of you came in on short notice because we have a few people out. Way to step up and help! You all are rock stars in my book!

We are almost at the end of August and will be moving in more winter goods soon. Coats and cold weather gear will be coming over from the shed for pricing so If you are a clothing pricer be aware that we will be switching out summer for winter in the next few weeks.

September calendars are up on the bulletin board in the shop. Take a peek at them and let me know if there are changes to be made. My main concern is donations. I have three shifts with zero coverage: Friday 9/5 10-1, Monday 9/8 10-12:30 and Monday 9/15 10-12:30. If you can help with one of these please let me know. I am also still looking for help with pricing hard goods on Friday afternoons - we have just been slammed on Friday with donations and I could use some help getting everything processed.

I will be on vacation 9/8-9/12. Debbie will be covering most of those shifts except Friday. Clarie Hoberecht will be "Person In Charge" for the day on 9/12.

Before I close, I wanted to take a moment to let you know how grateful Barry and I are for the gift certificates that you provided. We have been able to purchase a couple of dressers, a nice living room chair, a dining table with a few chairs and a curtain rod to put up our curtains! Your generous gift is truly appreciated and we are so thankful for the love and encouragement. We are quickly making this new place our home. Thank you!

Back to the Shop I go!

See you all soon!
