Weekly Update 13 June 2025
Reflection
Grace Minton
Grace Minton
After thanking God this evening for all the gifts before us, I asked for God’s help, during these difficult times, to cope. Jim suggested that we ask God’s help for us to flourish in these difficult times. Perfect! In last week’s homily, Deacon Eric reminded us that (through our baptism) the “Holy Spirit calls us to live out the Good News with courage and clarity.” Imagine the changes we could bring about using those simple tools of courage and clarity.
This Sunday’s reading from Romans 5:1-5 gives us further guidelines:
Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
When I become disheartened by current events, I find much solace and encouragement in worship and in paying attention to those whose faith might be stronger than mine.

Hello All You Lovely People,
Just a few quick notes for you today.
The Red Door Committee has scheduled its annual Volunteer Potluck for Wednesday August 13th at 4pm at the Church Property. This is your chance to have a meal with other volunteers, eat some good food and enjoy the camaraderie of being with like-minded folks. We hope you can make it. Please feel free to bring any family members or friends who would like to attend. Please let me know what you'd like to bring. I will start a list and put it on the bulletin board at the shop.
We will be participating in Downtown Anacortes Whale of a Sale on Saturday, June 28th. Debbie will be Person in Charge and I also have: Claire H, Debbie L, Trish S, Paula B and Chuck A signed up to help on that day. This will be our only Saturday shop opening this summer. Thank you for making this possible.
Shop Notes:
Shoes - Please remember to mark shoes ONLY on the bottom of the sole. Please do not write inside the shoe.
There are lots of changes going on and it may change daily so thank you in advance for your patience.
Today's changes:
1. The construction company has started to dismantle the closet out back and has taped off the area directly behind the building. They will be back in a couple of days to do more.
2. We have lots of rolling carts if you need to move items from donations to inside or vice versa. Please take care of your body appropriately. No heavy lifting or carrying should be necessary.
3. All NWC bags are in the back room storage area. All cardboard boxes go there as well.
A fun moment in the shop:
Last Friday, I was working in the front of the shop helping the cashier. We have two LDS missionaries who have been helping us on Friday afternoons for several months. The two elders walked by and asked me a couple of questions. One of our shoppers looked at the elders with a huge smile and said, "You mean to tell me that we have some Mormon missionaries that are working with an episcopalian outreach store?" He thought it was so cool that we welcomed folks from other beliefs/faiths to work with us. He shook both of their hands and asked where they were from. Both of them happen to be from Utah. He then said, "Well, I'm a Presbyterian. I think we should have some folks working here too!" and I told him we'd be happy to have them. It was a very affirming multidenominational/faith moment and there were smiles all around.
Prayer Request: As most of you know my husband and I have been chosen to purchase a Habitat townhouse in Anacortes. We will need to also sell our current Park Model Trailer. We have had it up for sale for about a month and no bites. We plan to lower the price on Monday. Will you please join me in prayerfully agreeing that we will find a buyer and the trailer will sell soon so we can move forward. Thank you.
Enjoy this sunshine,
Dawn
