A Long, But Fruitful Meeting
June Cook
Yesterday at our Ministry Support Circle meeting we talked about..... how we can make our worship together more meaningful, relevant, and spiritual. New Worship leaders and Preachers are increasing our options for additional services and providing opportunities for them to engage their faith and commitment on deeper levels.
We talked about.....developing and strengthening connections, among our congregants and with those in our wider community. Pride Parade is coming up on June 21, and Christ Church is a major sponsor. Every day the Red Door is open for business we connect, in a very meaningful way, with those who need an economical place to shop and with those who need a welcoming place to socialize. We reviewed our participation in the First Friday Art Walk (thank you, Melissa!) where we shared our stained glass windows, sanctuary art, and Kevin Paul’s incredible sign carvings.
We talked about.....stewardship. And, yes, not just in terms of our financial contributions. How we use our time and God-given talent to support our mission is especially relevant in our Total Common Ministry model. Every congregant has a ministry! Every one of us has time and talent to share.
We talked about.....discernment and intentionality in recognizing and developing our individual gifts for the benefit, not only of ourselves, but for the community of those who travel with us on our faith journeys. There’s a lot of discernment going on among us right now, more than you may know. Discernment is a quiet thing.....the fruits of which may not be seen for months for years.
We talked about.....pastoral care and how we support each other, especially during times of stress, grief, and uncertainty. How we engage with those who have concerns was gently and carefully considered.
We talked about.....formation and how we organize and plan to move us all forward and growing in faith, grace, and love. Several folks have stepped forward to plan new Faith Formation programs that promise to add depth and breadth to our formation experiences.
It was a very long meeting, but the time flew by as we talked......and discerned. It was, in my mind, the very essence of how TCM works among us......
A shout out to Rev. Courtney. The items underlined above are those she specifically addresses at our bi-monthly meetings. Those six items encapsulate who we are, what we do, and how we do it. Thank you, Courtney+!

I hope you'll indulge me a little bit this morning. I'd like to share something I've been thinking about the last few days. Do you have someone in your life that you try to emulate? Someone who makes you feel seen and heard? Someone who truly lives their faith? My role model in that department is none other than TV's Mister Rogers.
As a child without a father I admired him. He was so calm and patient and looked right through the screen at me when he sang, "It's YOU I like." I know, I know it's a little corny right? Well, even if it is, he is a great role model for me. He showed his faith through his actions. He wasn't loud or boisterous about being christ-like. He just was. I especially like his methods of going slow, taking time, really listening and being present. I think we could ALL use a little more of that in our day.
I know that I am usually in a great hurry most days. And my goal today is to go slower, be less rushed and be very present for every one of you and our customers. I'm not saying I'm going to be perfect at it. But I am going to try.
Thx for listening.... On to business.
As many of us are getting older and picking things up off of the floor is more of a challenge; I have moved the back room goodwill boxes onto the red rolling cart. You will see them just to the side of the door that goes into the main shopping room. Please do not put goodwill boxes under the pricing table any longer as it costs me greatly to pick up heavy boxes off of the floor. Thank you.
Our Thursday morning cashier, Claire H will be leaving us in the middle of June to take her boat up to Alaska for the summer. In her absence we will need a Thursday morning (9:30-12:30) and also a Cashier Assistant on Tuesdays from 11-1. Please pray about these positions, tell your friends, and the right person will appear I am sure. Thank you.
Please remember that we are closed next Monday for Memorial Day 5/26 to honor those who gave their lives during their service to our country.
Last but not least - If you have asked me about helping to volunteer sweat equity hours for Habitat - They are planning a Volunteer Orientation on Tuesday the 27th at 10:30 am at the Habitat Store in Mount Vernon. If you have questions about that you can call Audrey Madison at 360-428-9402 ext 114 or email her at a.madison@skagithabitat.com.
