Weekly Update 7 November 2025
Reflection
Shirley Barrett
“Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first and the lawless one is revealed, the one destined for destruction. He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, declaring himself to be God” (2 Thessalonians 2:1-5, 13-17)
Shirley Barrett
What an appropriate message for this time! Who do we trust? Who and what do we put out faith in? How do we know what is the right path? (Politically, socially, religiously) ...questions I don’t have the answers to…only hints and signs and that inner gut belief, which I pray to the Spirit is His/Her/Their wisdom coming through. Wisdom gleaned from the Word, written, spoken, and/or reflected upon. Wisdom from witnessing and lived through actions that are those taught by Jesus and handed down through his disciples throughout the ages. And the wisdom of listening, truly listening for Our God’s, the only God’s, Truth.
I believe we discern these questions at different levels and in different situations along our journey to become confident disciples of Christ. By working towards developing and living the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control as we give ourselves to our Father, I trust we will indeed be on the right track. We will be led by the Spirit to recognize and follow what and who God has given us as Trustworthy.

Hello All and Happy November!
The Holiday Elves have been in the shop making everything look festive and bright! We have several lovely Christmas displays and a large Thanksgiving display for our shoppers. And even MORE Christmas will be coming out tomorrow and over the coming weeks! I am NOT playing holiday music yet though. LOL.
I also wanted to share a couple of stories with you this morning:
A couple of weeks ago we had a young gentleman stop by the shop. His clothes were hanging on his extremely thin frame. He was missing a few teeth and he seemed jittery and nervous. He came in asking for warm shoes. He said he was cold. He was carrying all of his possessions in a large worn backpack. I helped him find some shoes that fit and then offered him a warm sleeping bag as we had a few up on the shelf. He was overcome with gratitude and told me "thank you" and "God bless you" several times.
As a mother of a son who has been on the streets due to drug addiction it is my honor and privilege to help young folks in this position. I know first hand what types of things conspire to put our children in such a state. We are blessed to be able to help folks like we do.
I also stopped by The Red Door this last Saturday. I had family visiting for the weekend and they wanted to see our new addition and maybe shop a bit while they were in town. As I approached the shop I noticed the lights were on and upon entering found one of our board members helping a young mom and her son to do some shopping for warm weather clothes. This mom lives in a van with her son. They were able to find a few things that would help but are still in need of boys clothing in size 5 or 6 and some warm shoes for mom size 7 or 7.5. If you have some of these items to donate (or could afford to provide some) please let me know.
Shifts Available At The Shop This Week:
Cashier for Thursday afternoon 11/6 - 12:30 - 3pm.
We have received multiple applications for the Red Door Grants and are now in the process of deciding where to allocate funds. Eric Johnson will be leading this meeting and YOU are welcome to attend. The meeting will be held at the church fellowship hall on 11/7 at 11 a.m. The address is 1216 7th Street. If you have never attended one of these meetings, you might really enjoy seeing the process and what all of our hard work is for!
One quick note: For anyone doing pricing of Linen items. Please include the date, measurements and what the item is: table runner, shower curtain etc. Thank you!
Holiday love to all,
Dawn
