Reflection

Grace Minton

At the most recent Morning Prayer Service, Todd Fifield briefly spoke of the Season of Creation which takes place this month, and shared a beautiful hand-painted woodcut of St. Kevin by the artist Kreg Yingst. The woodcut shows St. Kevin with his arm extended from his narrow cell and a blackbird nested in his upturned hand. Legend has it that this monastic was so respectful of God’s small creatures that he remained in that stiff, awkward position even as the bird built its nest, laid its eggs, they hatched, and fledged. The story led me to wonder: just how far would I (or we) go to care for God’s creation?

A recent article in Sojourner’s magazine entitled “Why Climate Work Keeps Me in Church” asks “How are we to take action for the endangered community of creation?” The article by Liuan Huska suggests that “churches might not readily partner with secular environmental groups, but having a theologically credible guide makes all the difference between concerned paralysis and meaningful action.” As individuals we can continue to take small steps, but as a group we may be able to bring about much more significant progress in protecting our delicate environment which is in such peril.

Thank you for the introduction, Todd. I look forward to learning more during this Season of Creation.

Weekly News

Dawn Jex, Red Door Manager

Dawn Jex

Hello all and welcome to September,

We are getting a little bit cooler weather and it is starting to feel like FALL! I've even seen some red maple leaves on the ground already! At the shop we are starting to pull over some of the winter/cooler weather clothing and shoes so gird your loins for pricing winter stuff...LOL

I want to give a huge shout out to Angelique and her husband for borrowing a truck and handling two big pieces of furniture from Pacific Northwest Thrift down to our Storage. One is a desk for my office and one is a Hutch that we will use to display kitchen items once construction is done. Thank you two for going above and beyond to help me with those items. I really appreciate your muscle!

I will be on vacation next week so please write down Debbie's phone number or better yet save it in your phone. It is: 360-685-3493. Please text or call her if you have any questions or needs. She will be here Monday through Thursday filling in for me. Claire Hoberecht will be coming in to run the shop on Friday the 12th. Claire is one of our cashiers and she is very good at being "in charge" so I have no doubt that she will do a wonderful job. Thank you so much Claire and Debbie for covering so I can go out of town.

September calendars are up on the wall. Double check to make sure they are right. LOL. I miss things sometimes. And speaking of missing things, there are several lost water bottles in the holds bin. Please take a look and see if one of them might be yours please.

I can't think of anything else. Send me a text or call if you have questions.

Hugs Everyone,
Dawn
