Reflection

Unfair Rain

Mother Earth screams.
You send all this carbon into my atmosphere,
what do you expect?
It is not a fair game.

So I send back more moisture,
than you want or need.

All your cars and motorcycles race around,
on their busy ways.
Do you forget the wholeness,
oneness of every atom in this creation?

Every foot step,
every automobile track,
needs people to be more aware.
All is becoming critical, says our world.

Being guilty with trips for groceries,
exercise, and Church —
where I pray for strength
to help others,
while many of us still harm,

our remarkably Beautiful blue planet.

The Red Door Thrift Shop Update

Dawn Jex

Dawn Jex, Red Door Manager

Today, I want to start with a story that I should have told you last week.

Sometimes our being at The Red Door has nothing to do with Sales or Retail or Pricing. Last week, a few of us were in the back room and I noticed one of our volunteers was tearing up and looking upset. I went over to her quickly and asked if she was ok. She had been out on the floor talking to a customer and the customer's story was so hard and challenging that it made our volunteer start to cry. Now, I know this volunteer pretty well. I know what is in her heart. How she has a heart for service for others.  One of my favorite things is to watch her talk to shoppers, find ways to encourage them and love on people. Well, this one person got to her and she was sad. I hugged our volunteer and said, "I guess that was your mission today. You were here to be there for that shopper. Your job today was to listen." She nodded tearfully.

One of the most important things about The Red Door is to be present for those shoppers or even other volunteers who might need us. We might be the only person in their day to show them some care and loving kindness. To be a listening ear, an encourager, a heartfelt friend. I can think of nothing more important. Keep up the good job everyone.

A few reminders - NO Tag = No Sale. Last week a wig was sold off of a mannequins head. We keep all of these wigs for our mannequins and I know it did not have a tag. From now on all the wigs will have a NFS tag on them. But other than that - If something does not have a tag - that is supposed to have one - please call a member of management.

If anyone is curious we will be open next week for St. Patricks Day.

Your First Draft Calendars for April are attached below. Julie, I have you down for cashier on all four Tuesdays. Elise, I still have you on the donations calendar and I know you are usually helping with pricing. Jennie, I have you down on Friday mornings but we have your shifts covered until you are ready to return.

Happy Spring Everyone!
Dawn
