“...God walks among the pots and the pans.”

October 15th is the Feast day of Teresa of Avila in the Episcopal and Roman Catholic churches. Teresa was a Spanish monastic and mystic who worked to reform the order of Carmelite Nuns. She wrote this poem:

“Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world.
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.

—Teresa of Avila, 1515-1582

“…Make many acts of love, for they enkindle and melt the soul.”

The following note is from Grace Minton.

Grace Minton

Dear Friends,
I’m delighted to announce that Kelley Wells has joined the Hospitality Ministry.  What this means is that it’s now possible for me to step away from this ministry knowing that there’s a fine group ready to take over.  (I’ve been bossing people around in the kitchen for six years and it’s past time for me to step aside!)  I know that Judy, Kelley, and Jerlyn will do a great job.
Yours in faith,
Grace

Good Morning Volunteers and Welcome to Fall!

I don't know about you, but it certainly feels like the colder weather is on its way! This morning there was a definite nip in the air and I thought, "Now we are REALLY in Fall!" Even though it's cold, it's still sunny!  I'm loving this sunshine as I sit at the church office and look out through the window. There is a big male deer about 5 feet away eating fruit from a tree! He is fabulous.

I can't help but think about how lovely it's going to be to be in the new building. We are going to have so much more space and with heat for our donation folks! Thank you Red Door Committee, Bishops Committee, The Olympia Diocese and especially Dianne Guinn for making this dream come to fruition.

Speaking of the Addition, The painters are here today working on the outside of the building. They are going to paint the new and the old building to make everything look cohesive and connected. We also have a flooring specialist here who is preparing for our new laminate floors - Yippee, Hooray!!!

Inside the shop everything is running pretty smoothly. I could use one volunteer to come in Thursday morning from 10-12:30 if anyone would like to switch shifts this week? It will just be the cashier and I on Thursday morning and I find that an extra person is very helpful. Debbie will be running the show this Friday as I will be out of town. Thank you Debbie!

Regarding my idea about being open on Saturdays. I have had some feedback from several people. We have a few very excited volunteers willing to help and a few who are cautiously optimistic and a lot of silence from the majority of our folks. Personally, I love the idea but January may be too soon. We have A LOT of stuff to do to get moved into the new building, get through the holidays and let things fall back into a normal pattern. I'm thinking that it may be a better idea to hold off on Saturdays till this summer. That would also give us more time to recruit new volunteers and advertise and not have to rush to fill the calendar with names. Thank you to each of you that I've heard from. Hang on to your energy and let's revisit this idea a bit later.

Sharing good news: I have had a couple of newer volunteers tell me lately how very glad they are to have found the Red Door as a place to volunteer. They are feeling more connected to our community and have even made new friends. This makes me very happy as being a warm and welcoming place is one of the items on our mission statement. So good job all of you more seasoned volunteers making the newbies feel welcome and wanted!

As we get closer to the end of October I am planning to have a storewide half off sale to help clear space for all of the Holiday stuff to come over from the garage. We will start to put out Thanksgiving items after that sale and Christamas items will go up early in November!!!! Yes, the holidays are upon us!

Thank you for all of your love and support. Thank you for working extra shifts - I know who you all are. Thank you for being a warm smile to others. Thank you for using your gifts and talents in the shop. You are needed and appreciated.

With Humble Gratitude,
Dawn
